Do you need a whambulance?
Here we sit. Waiting on this pandemic to end. How long do we have to wait? We all want to get back to our normal lives. We want things back to the way they were? What is this taking so long?
Here is a question. Were things perfect before the pandemic? Was everything just like you wanted it? Did you have any problems? If your life was great, I need you to sit down with me and explain what you were doing. We may need to write a book.
The Israelites were in a terrible shape. They were being abused and destroyed by the Egyptians. They were beaten and made to work slave labor. They had no freedom and cried out to God for help.
God sent help in the form of Moses. Moses came and through many miracles of God, they were released. They were saved again by God at the Red Sea as He parted it and destroyed the Egyptians.
Israel is now free from slavery and God is taking them to a place full of everything they need to enjoy life. They are on their way, but for them, not soon enough.
Look at what happened.
They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!” (Numbers 21:4-5 NIV).
More than just this time, they complained to Moses and said they had it better in Egypt. Really? Having to struggle a little for food is worse than being beaten, starved and treated horribly?
We have a bad habit of comparing today with yesterday. The problem with this is yesterday is always better than we remember it. Those of us old enough call it “the good ole days!”
Another question? How many of you would like to go back to no air conditioning. How many of you would like to go back to no cell phones, no computers, no Netflix, no satellite radio, no mircowaves, etc. Yes, we would probably give up some of those things, but not all of them.
The truth is we have it much better today than 50 years ago. Yet, just because we have been inconvenienced for several months, we whine and complain.
STOP! You want things to be better? Make them better. Change your perspective. Look for ways to make this time a success. You have the opportunity to be with your family more. Use it. You have the ability to control your time. Use it. We complained we were too busy for this and that. Well, now you are not. Do those things you desire to do.
Trust God in the midst of all of this. If the Israelites had just been patient and walked where God was leading them, they would have found the best life ever. They ruined it by thinking only of themselves.
Tomorrow can be better if we trust God. You don’t need to know when this will end. You need to trust that God is leading us for our best and for what He knows is best.
The Israelites whining caused more problems, not a better life. Let’s learn from them.
